Why Wyoming libraries have my new libertarian self-help book

So….some of the things I do, I do to make money. (Like the $30 School book series.) But some things I do just to get something good out there. Like my new band, RIGHT ARM OF WYOMING, or my libertarian self-help book:

The money projects pay for my living, and usually leave enough left over to make something great that I do not for money, but sell physical copies of (as well as giving away on BitTorrent), and usually make enough to break even.

I usually send out about 100 copies of everything for promo, to magazines, radio stations, blogs, etc. With my latest book, A User’s Manual for the Human Experience, I decided to send links to PDF copies for promo to save money, so I could send 100 paperback copies out to give to libraries.

I always liked libraries, and feel that having your book in a library is a nice thing…your book can be found by someone who would be unlikely to ever order it online or buy it in a book store. And I wrote this book to help people, not to make money.

So when the book came out in May of 2009, I sent out copies to 100 libraries all over America.

I just checked online, and interestingly, the only places it seems to be interested is Wyoming libraries. It’s not listed as being in any other libraries in America.

The fact that Wyoming libraries put it into their system is cool, it just proves more and more that we moved to the right place. This coming Thursday will be six months we’ve been here, and it feels more like home to both of us than anywhere we’ve ever lived.

Anyway, if you’re in Wyoming, here’s the libraries that have my book:

  1. Campbell Co. Public Library
  2. Carbon Co. Library System,
  3. Carbon Co. – Hanna Branch
  4. Carbon Co. – Medicine Bow Branch
  5. Carbon Co. – Saratoga Branch
  6. Crook Co. – Moorcroft Branch
  7. Fremont Co. – Lander Library
  8. Fremont Co. – Dubois Branch
  9. Sheridan College Griffith Mem Library
  10. Gillette College Library
  11. Lincoln Co. – Thayne Branch Library
  12. Casper College Library

Wonder why it’s not in the Laramie County system? Lame.

  2. MichaelWDean says:

I sent it to Laramie. If you live there, please ask for it next time you’re in the library. It’s probably still being processed, asking for it might speed it up.

Dean, Dean, Dean…you were always a shameless self-promoter and a bit of a scatter-shot, but this truely takes the cake. When in Gods good name did you become a delerious gun nut red-neck? I can appreciate and even understand why you might be angry at the world, but honestly, this is just another one of your scams, right? There is too much in this web sight that I disagree with to even begin to comment. I mean for fucks sake, you wrote a song called “gun control causes rape”? Very interesting…you are my friend and i will always hold that in my heart but you seem to have been led astray. Oh yeah, by the way, public libraries, which you are championing here in this post for having your book in it are Government funded through national and local taxation in the effort to educate and literate the common public…sounds like socialism to me…kinda “nanny state” as well, I mean, its every citizens right to remain an illiterate ignorant fool, isn’t it.

    take care mate…

Come on Simon, you’ve always been someone who believed in personal freedom at all costs, yet you run off to England and become a citizen of the most restrictive formerly “free” country in the world.

In your country, they can’t sell steak knives anymore unless the tips are dulled down because stabbings went way up when they took all the guns away from your countrymen a few years back. Talk about a nanny state!

I eat my steak with a pointy knife, and I like it.

Next time you’re back in the states, stop in to Wyoming, I’ll take you shooting. Not dope this time, but rather guns. I’ll make a believer outta you yet.

As for my love of libraries, I’m a realist. I don’t think my feisty internet rants are going to stop all taxation tomorrow. I think libraries are about the least wasteful use of the pound of flesh taken from us on a daily basis. (Besides, as a lover of a government “free lunch”, you should know that they provide a service: a place for homeless drunks to hang out. Though we don’t have many homeless in Wyoming. Weather’s too touch, and welfare’s hard to get and harder to keep.)

And Wyoming is so prosperous because of it’s lack of bailing out crack babies that we have NO STATE INCOME TAX. How cool is that?

Make fun of rednecks all you want, but we can balance our state budget. Wyoming is one of three states with a SURPLUS in the state coffers.

Whats up with the obsession with crack babies? There are at least 5 refrences to them in your site. Have you ever met a “crack baby”, and, is it the babies fault for being born addicted to drugs…as a recovering addict, I would expect some sympathy from you.

Also, I have a collection of chef’s and butcher knives that would make quick work of anyone living or dead and made into useful and easily disposeable chunks for deposit into the Thames…do you honestly think there would be less crime in my new country if guns were allowed. why the fuck do you need a gun in the local supermarket?

sure, the UK has alot of control over its populace and the tax rate is rather high, but the services it goes to are easily seen and available to the public. We all, every last one of us, gets 25 days paid holiday, we all get medical insurance including free child birth and nurses visits to the new mother; which i must say made the choice to have children much less financially restrictive. And as far as personal freedom…outside of carrying a gun strapped to my side like some sort of anachronistic cowboy; there are less controls than there are in the states. They are still trying there damndesat to make certain drugs illegal, and as far as sexual liberties, outside of Amsterdamn, it doesn’t get much more liberal than over here.Stop getting your news from Fox…you are smarter than that.

As well, Wyoming is 50% owned by the US government, has the 10th largest land mass in the U.S. but the lowest population of all the states. It’s 98% white and 80% christian…is the crack baby refrence some sort of racist epithet? IT ALSO RECIEVES A DISSPROPORTIONATE AMOUNT OF FEDERAL FUNDING SO THAT IT CAN REMAIN FUNCTIONING.In this modern world the libertarian approach of isolationism is just not realistic or practical. For a state that is so dependant on the outside influence of federal government, you should understand that. Do you live near a reservation or a state or national park, perhaps you would prefer that these lands be made available to cattle grazing…who knows.

    take care you big freak.

    Simon:

“Crack babies” is my catch-all phrase for “any government handout at the expense of taxpayers.” Feel free to substitute “free college”, “free health care”, “higher taxes on cigarettes”, or any nanny state program you can think of.

re Guns: I have them because I CAN, and I like them. A lot. They’re lovely machines with a rich history and a lot to learn. And they liberated us from YOUR country, starting April 19th, 1775!

I CARRY them because I do not want to be a victim.

Re racism: you’ve got the wrong guy. Though your country’s overt acceptance of everything is leading you to be drown in Muslim influence and immigration, and truth is, about 2% of them DO want you dead. That’s not racist, that’s fact.

re: Wyoming being on the fed gov teet: I don’t like it, but I’m not a rancher, so I’m not taking a handout. I’m also working with state legislators and citizens to make this place more liberty minded. I don’t smoke pot, but I don’t think it should get you a year in jail. Here’s what I’m up to with activism:

I love living here. For my current lifestyle, it’s the most laissez-faire place I’ve ever been.

Simon, I think “ANARCHISTIC cowboy” is more accurate for me than “anachronistic cowboy”. When you don’t trust the government to “take care of you”, you have to take on more responsibility yourself.

And yeah, you do have some nifty knives, but if you leave the house with them, they’ll throw you in the brig.
