From Seattle Weekly (Krist Novoselic’s column):
Sound Strike, a group of musicians–led by Rage Against the Machine, and including Kanye West, Sonic Youth, and Massive Attack–are calling for a boycott of Arizona, refusing to perform in the state until a recently passed law regarding illegal immigration is repealed.
WOW!
Remember the “King of the Hill” episode (“Love Hurts and So Does Art”) where an “important” New York City conceptual artist comes to Texas and gets shunned for defaming beef in his exhibit (by displaying an x-ray of Hank Hill’s beef-filled colon)?
The artist threatens the sheriff “YOU’LL NEVER HAVE ANOTHER SHOWING OF IMPORTANT ART FROM NEW YORK IN THIS STATE AGAIN!”
The sheriff drawls back at the artist “We’ll get by….”
That will be Arizona’s feeling if “important” “edgy” bands stop playing the state.
My wife and I often drawl “We’ll get by….” regarding situations like that. It’s kind of a running joke, and fits SO many situations.

Everyone! Raise your Bics and sing! “We are the world…We are the Children!”
A guy from AZ on another messageboard I visit pointed out that these artists seldom play in AZ anyway. I don’t think AZ will miss them.
Mark – LOLLLLLZ!

Bondurant – excellent point.
“Artists” tend to be such whiny bitches and actually think anyone cares what they have to say.
I hate “professional victims.”

Wait… I thought Rage Against the Machine broke up?
Aaron, me too, but we should only be so lucky.

Mike,
Why is it everytime we turn on the News, some Musician or Hollywood Celbrity tries to push thier morals on us ?, are they not happy that they make millions a year ?.
I’m really tired of these whiners crying like they care about something when all they really care about is themselves.
yup.
And the middle class are hurt by unbridled immigration (or any government economic “gimme” to anyone). Poor people don’t pay for it (and benefit from it) and rich celebrities (who feel guilty for their wealth) don’t mind paying for it. But they always want to jam it down the throats of EVERYONE regardless. Because they’re so damn sure they’re RIGHT that they think it’s ok to make us comply, and want the government to ENFORCE it at gunpoint.
fuck ‘em.
I think some sort of secession is coming. Not de jour, not a violent revolution, but some sort of de facto secession…..the producers of most wealth (us) are getting more and more sick of paying for the guilt of the whiny. It cannot be sustained forever. Though the whiny will fight it tooth and nail, because without us, there’s no one to steal from.
As rich as liberal celebrities are, they are rare. Their combined wealth is minuscule compared to the producers of the economy, the driving force of industry and people who actually WORK for a living.
Wyoming could TOTALLY support itself with mineral energy sales if the Feds would quit mugging and stopping us. Part of the reason we have no state income tax.

I’ve never, EVER believed a word that Rage Against the Copy Machine have said. It seemed like total B.S. from the first time I heard about them, which was an anecdote about their really spoiled child behavior at San Jose’s Cactus Club, around 1992 or so. Such a Big Lie foisting, crappy music producing pile of steaming crap. Fuck ‘em.
My band Bomb opened for ‘em in Los Angeles at Club Lingerie right before they got signed. I was not impressed, and they were pretty bratty.

Rage against the machine amuses the hell out of me. All they do is write some some “anti establishment” stuff and, you know man, those fucking evil corporations; use “radical” imagerey like molotov cocktails and old commie propaganda…and gullible young people will buy it.
Sounds like Arizona got the better deal in this. Real immigration laws and less shitty music. Win, Win.
